Chilli Lover’s Spice Collection

Chillies are not just for those who like to have their socks knocked off. For all their reputation as something hot and spicy, chillies can just as well be mild or smoky or chocolatey. They aren’t just an ingredient that likes to shout out; they’re just as happy to provide the background note. Here are our four favourites.

Chipotle Chilli Flakes add a gentle kick and meaty depth to all sorts of soups and stews. It’s more for background notes than a bold statement. Aleppo Chilli Flakes are a great option for those who like things mild and slightly fruity. Urfa Chilli Flakes are another mild option adding a purple-black hue to all sorts of dishes. Altino Sweet Pepper Flakes are the sweetest of all. These Italian dried pepper flakes are big on aroma and colour, mild on heat and wonderful sprinkled over your next batch of hummus or slow-cooked lamb.
